Self rescuing a bow

In regards to letting air out of your L.E. if you have certain valves like a slingshots, they are very difficult to push back in when inflated. THey almost have to be seated when the kite is deflated and you can push against the backside of the L.E.

Uh, also don't let your leading edge fill up with water or your liferaft could become a very heavy anchor.

My instructor made me do a self-rescue during my second lesson. Is this not standard? How the heck else would you figure it out...
