Advice on PFDs

Post by scatmandu » Sun May 07, 2006 9:11 pm

Anyone got any recommendation on the best PFD for kiting? I used the Niel Pryde's at KWS when I took lessons there and I really liked them. I'm considering ditching my impact vest for a PFD with the Dakine shorts with integrated harness/spreader bar. Anyone roll like that? Also, if anyone has any PFDs or Dakine shorts ("36) for sale holler back at me. Thanks for any help.

I was looking for a CGA PFD. The thinnest (lowest profile) model being touted is the Nevin SWAT CGA vest. However, I found a thinner vest, which seems to be the thinnest CGA PFD going... the Core vest from Jetpilot. The bonus with the Core vest is the buckles are more toward the front rather the side like on the Nevin. I found the buckles on the Nevin dug into my ribs with a waist harness over it, where as the Jetpilot buckle placement created no issues and was very comfortable under the harness. If you use the Dakine shorts/harness then you'll have no issues like this, but if you like using a waist harness, then I would recommend the Core vest hands down.

Check out both vests:
