Anyone had a LASIK procedure?

Post by jjm » Thu May 04, 2006 7:25 am

I'm thinking about getting my eyes zapped.

Has anyone had a LASIK procedure, and have any comments?

Specifically on how it has affected outdoor activities (more glare on water/snow, dry, night vision, etc).

Thanks.

I had mine done in 1998, it makes water sports so much easier. I can't imagine how many times I would have lost my contacts with kiting. When I did it, I could not wear contacts for two weeks prior to my surgery so I had to wear my glasses windsurfing. Also they told me I had to wear sunglasses all the time outdoors, at least for a while.

the complication rate is really down now to 0.5% which is a good part, but just remember that the cornea gets cut (flap) and will never grow back on. Only one single cell layer on top of it will close and hold it. I am always concerned on the longtherm effect over 30 years or so as your eye has a higher internal pressure and the cornea needs to hold that on the long run to the end of your life.

Yes, surfing with glasses really sucks but a problematic longterm effects will suck even more... I stay with my glasses.

my 2 cents, G
