Post by sflinux » Fri Mar 03, 2006 9:19 am

Just wondering where people's favorite places to ride are based on the wind direction:
North
South
NorthWest
SouthWest
West
East
NorthEast
SouthEast

The wind has names, why not use them?

Zephyr: Summer westerly onshore fog wind. Usually good if you are on the edge of the fog/clear. Clear your schedule for important board mtg mid-afternoon. Crissy, Berkeley, Sherman usually good. Alameda so-so.

Diablo: Hot offshore N/NE winds. Can be good at Windy Cove on flood. Otherwise go surfing, it will be nice and warm and smooth.

Storm winds: Anything with a southerly component. SE before storm, S during storm, SW towards end of storm. Alameda best in the bay. Beware stinging rain and big gusts.

Clearing winds: NorthWesterlies after storm. Will be cranking on coast and peninsula. EBay may be windshadowed by Mt Tam (especially Berkeley). Alameda may catch some of it. Crissy can be cranking if there is more west in it, or quiet if there is more north in it.
