2005 Naish v4 8m

Post by Scotty » Wed Feb 15, 2006 8:41 am

I was wondering if anyone has an opinion about the 2005 Naish V4 8m kite. I do most of my kiting at OB and 3rd ave during the season. My 2004 Gaastra 8m Force is just too wobbly in high wind conditions.

FWIW - I haven't flown that kite, so this is all second hand. If I remember correctly, all the smaller sizes in that kite were prone to jellyfishing. 14M and up were fine, but 12M and smaller had issues.

Go to kiteforum.com and do a search for v4 and jellyfish and you'll get the real dirt from people who've flown the kite.

Owned the kite, sold it.

The wind range it worked well in was TOOOOO Narrow. It you used the depower strapped, the kite wobbled/bobbed and delivered pulsy power - not what you want in the strong winds of 3rd/OB. Some people added a 5th line to the kite, which stabilized it somewhat - still far from optimal.

There are much better small kites, 2nd hand, on the market, such as:
Slingshot
Caution
North

Good winds, Z.

I did some research and you are right. What a junky kite. However, I just replied to someone and scooped a slingshot diesel 7m kite with bar for $250. A much more stable kite. Thanks for your help

That kite needs a 5th to stabilize it. I had a lot of fun on the 10m. I could adjust the knots on the 5th to get better topend. I flew it from 23knots to about 30+. Just sold it for $100.

I use my 11m diesel in winds to 28mph. The seven would be for anything above that. So the kite gets pretty wobbly without that 5th line?

Yeah, it will jelly, but still fly well.

I rode the 7m Vegas last year... I can vouch that it has a wide range and is very stable.... and very quick if you want it to be.
