Kitesurfing Mavericks

Post by Sander » Tue Feb 07, 2006 10:53 am

The Mavericks Big Wave contest is today with >30 ft wave faces.

OK so who is going to be the first to kite Mavs?

There are offshore winds today, perfect for surfing. But that place often gets the NW winds.

Some windsurfing friends of mine have tried it and bailed because of light winds.

I have seen web footage of someone kiting Jaws on Maui.

In any case you'd have to have some huge cajones b/c the consequences of wiping out could be deadly. I can't imagine going through the spin cycle with kite lines to worry about...

Sander,
I heard Mav's was kited years ago. I have no idea how big or what ever...
Also Patterson was planing on kiting the worlds 5 largest breaks, this was to include Mav's. Once again I dont know if Chuck ever did it...
Have fun,
L.M.G.
PS. I'm also not liking the idea of getting sushi rolled...

If anyone has plans on kiting Mavs. PLEASE give me a buzz if you want some kick ass photo coverage.

Here are a couple from Tuesdays Surf Contest

Huge kudos to kiteboarder Jeff Kafka for getting me a spot on a friends boat to cover the event.
