Bay Area Kiteboarding T-Shirts for KALX Radio!

Post by OliverG » Fri Oct 28, 2005 5:44 pm

Ok folks, from now through 10AM Sunday morning you can not only get a great deal on some quality Bay Area Kiteboarding T-Shirts and not only will you be showing your support for Bay Area Kiteboarding but 100% of all proceeds will go directly to KALX 90.7 FM Berkeley to show support as a pledge during their Annual Fund Drive.

KALX 90.7 FM is owned by the University of California Berkeley but relies on their community of listeners for a significant portion of their annual budget. If you can't get KALX on the radio, you can tune in to streaming audio.

Why should I do this you ask? The reasons are many. As mentioned, by wearing a Bay Area kiteboarding T-Shirt you will be showing your support for this site, which is run out of pocket for you, the kiteboarding community.

More importantly, you will be showing your support for KALX 90.7 FM Berkeley and saying "Yes" to commercial-free listener sponsored radio and saying "No" to Clear Channel corporate-controlled radio. Check out the KALX Program Schedule. You won't hear such a wide variety of diverse music and programs anywhere else.

Check out their site at http://kalx.berkeley.edu, take a moment to see what they're about and if it's something you feel is worth supporting and getting cool t-shirts in exchange for your support you can use any credit card without having to sign up for an account at PayPal. Two shirts for 20 bucks, folks. Send payment to info@bayareakiteboarding.com and include your address and size preference in the Comments. Note that we are out of Size Medium, we have S, L, XL, and XXL. Also some size large hoodies for $25 with free shipping.

You can check out the colors here.

It's a good cause, so don't delay!

We've just about 24 hours left, even if you already have a shirt, get another one for your self, your girlfriend, brother, sister or dog if you can spare the dough.

This is a great way to show your support for quality programming at a local college radio station and this site.

Here's a few examples of the kind of programs and music on KALX 90.7 FM Berkeley:

6:00 AM - 9:00 AM Mondays
Jesse Luscious

What you hear is only most of what you get; requests, mostly of the rockin' kind, are incredibly welcome. This is an ACLU-free fire zone- step up! Other than than, it's caffinated punk, hip-hop, ska, country, rap, rockabilly, and practically anything else thrown at the listeners like so much rotten, yet strange, fruit.

6:00 AM - 9:00 AM Tuesdays
Concrete Skyline

Electronica (IDM, glitch, ambient, trip-hop), indie rock (showgazer, dream-pop, , math-rock), local bay area musicians, alternative and golden age rap, turntabilism, bossa nova, orchestral / sountrack score, four part harmony, virtuoso guitar rock, and classic comedy.

9:00 - 9:30 AM Thursdays
Northgate Magazine

News magazine devoted produced by the UC Graduate School of Journalism.

Noon - 12:30 PM Wednesdays
Berkeley Groks

Investigates topics in the world of science and technology, and how they affect our daily lives. Includes reviews of current science, interviews with prominent scientists, round-up of science events in the Bay Area, and a Question of the Week.
Hosted by Charles Lee and Frank Ling.

9:30 PM - Midnight
JJ or Molly Monster

So long as it doesn't suck ass, you can hear it on my show . . . except Indian ragas, I will never play an Indian raga. Expect to hear country yodeling, punk, noise, new wave, blues, indie-rock, no-wave, doo-wop, indie-pop, ska, calypso, power-pop, lots of local bands, and the occasional on-air phone call.

Without the support of the listening community you will have less and less of a choice and your only options will be Britney Spears, Fox News, MSN, Clear Channel (The Bone, Wild 94.7, Alice, etc.) and Reality shows.

20 bucks for a couple shirts and I'll shut up, starting tomorrow morning anyway.

Thanks!

Ok guys, here's our final tally. Big thanks to Josh and Don at Berkeley for giving in under duress and putting up $20 for a few shirts each, we now have a final total of $100 which will go to KALX on this final day of their annual fundraiser, which I'll match with a bit more myself. Thanks for the support guys! It all adds up and is for a good cause.

It does count and does make a difference, so once again, thanks!

Ollie
