I found it interesting to see that San Mateo had 8, always hoped that the water at 3rd is ugly enough to keep those guys away - but well....
Kitechick, I think they ment the San Mateo coast line (pacific side). That made me scratch my head at first. Whitty in the bay scares me!! I wonder if they follow the seals that go to pier 39 into the bay often. That's a buffet just waiting to happen.

I think teamcoyote documented an attempted shark attack.

So as far as those statistics go, does getting gnawed on by a 12" leopard shark count as an "unprovoked shark attack" ?

ive seen mr worden inside the gate..! inside . years ago ...

his water .
I tried to find some information on this. Best I could do was an attack in 1926 (Attack #1 of 108 documented cases a shark researcher collected.) If anyone is interested, I will email the author and ask if he could provide a couple details. I for one am not interested enough to buy the $60 book :)
Case Number One happened in 1926, when a boy and his dog were attacked by the same shark off a beach in Alameda.

That Team Coyote video has to be bogus, doesn't it. Paste together some shots of a leopard shark (at 3rd? Who knows, they're all close ups) with shots of polesurfers falling all over themselves as they learn how to jibe.

I was laughing the whole time.

Am I just in denial? Does anyone know if this actually happened?

That leopard shark is kinda cute. I wouldn't want to see one up close, but from a distance...

I was under the impression that leopard sharks don't really pose a danger to humans... it's the great whites, tiger, and bull sharks?
Danger to Humans
The leopard shark poses virtually no danger to humans. The International Shark Attack File has a single report of an incident involving a human and a leopard shark. This incident did not reportedly cause any significant damage to the victim, and no bite was involved. However, leopard sharks do contain high levels of mercury and should not be consumed regularly, as per the warnings of the California Department of Fish & Game.
