Good place for north winds is the frontage road between berkeley and emeryville (sideshore). Especially at low tide when the beach is exposed.

No Frontage Road beach, please....

Ahem! No, it's not actually. As clearly shown in the guidleines for this spot which can be read here: https://www.bayareakiteboarding.com/viewtopic.php?t=842 , any launching or landing from the Frontage Road beach is strongly discouraged. The close and immediate proximity to:

1. The Bay Trail
2. The Frontage Road
3. Hwy. Interstate 80

make it unsuitable for general use by kiteboarders in order to protect access and maintain safety. There is simply not enough of a buffer zone in case anything were to happen. That beach should only be used for coming in during an emergency situation in the event of gear failure, or if the wind shuts down completely and you cannot make it back to the Pt. Emery beach.

In any event, North winds at this location typically don't fill in well and reach in far enough to make it viable, and again, kiting from the Frontage Road beach is not cool. Point Pinole is the best bet for North winds in the Central/East Bay area.

In this growing sport, we need to maintain guidelines and standards to protect the public, access, and ourselves.

Thank you! O:)
