Helmet?

Post by elli » Sat Jun 11, 2005 12:00 am

I went wakeboarding today, and in my stupidity tried sliding sideways on top of the wave (after only 10 minutes). Result ñ mother of all face plants. That hurts (even now a few hours later).

I was thinking if something like that can happen in kite boarding. Of course it can happen, but is this common like it is on wakeboard (that's why I was told).

Makes me think again about wearing a helmet. Having said that, I hardly ever see someone kiting with a helmet that is not a beginner.

My face hurts just from thinking about another face plant.

I can think of several people who definitely aren't beginners who wear helmets.

Three years ago, you hardly ever saw a skiier wearing a helmet who wasn't a beginner. Of course, there are a lot more trees around when you're skiing. And usually when you're skiing, you have to wear something on your head anyway...

One guy I know (not a beginner) wears a helmet, a face shield, and an impact vest. If there's ever a pickup game of hockey on Sherman, he's all set.

That's an interesting survey to do, how many wear a helmet. Probably done a few times in every forum. https://www.bayareakiteboarding.com/abo ... ght=helmet

I do wear a helmet for kite skiing and kite mountain boarding, but that's really a no brainer.

Did anyone here experience a wakeboard style face plant? Straight down at full speed?

Perfect example of why you should wear a helmet.

(Oh, and not to boost when you can stand in the water and keep your shins dry.)

I slammed my head from a pretty big jump today. Came down hot and off axis. Was wearing a helmet, so no problems. I'm often tempted not to wear it when the wind is light. On Monday I wind out underpowered on my 17m. In 10min. it was blowing 25++. Glad I decided to wear the helmet.

Every Day, Every time out.
I wear a helmet with ear flaps so when I land on my side my ear drum remains intact.
A helmet is good for the likes of Jeff and Scott from KWS and LMG and those boys have it down.
Helmets should be for everyone, every time out.
