Which sport do you think translates over into kiting best?

I had to think about this one a bit. Wakeboarding translates well in the respect that you have some board skills and it would eventually help in certain types of moves, but I had to vote for Windsurfing. So many of the guys I know in the Bay come from this background and have years of experience with the wind, water and conditions, so I thought that's more helpful overall.

I think I brought my waterskiing experience to the sport, as well as windsurfing and skateboarding, and perhaps a tad snowboarding. Definitely waterskiing and windsurfing give me a similar feeling. But nothing, and I mean NOTHING, beats Kiteboarding.

It's obvious....surfing for kiting in the waves.

Windsurfing helps you understand the weather patterns, and all about wings/sails - helps you with kite trimming.

Wakeboarding uses very similar board skills. Going up wind is a lot easier if you ever carved against the pull of the boat while wakeboarding. I crossed over from wakeboarding. I don't think I'll ever be crossing back.

You forgot to add soap shoes. Probably one of the funnest things you can do if not kiting. http://www.soapshoes.com/

I had never windsurfed whatsoever, I only had a bit of wakeboarding experience. I used to have a boat and bought some used wakeboarding gear, including one ancient Hyperlite directional tri-fin board. I should have kept it to have some laughs with it kiting, but included it with some other gear when i sold the boat.

So for me, having said that I never had any windsurfing experience, yes, the wakeboarding experience was helpful. But I imagine windsurfing experience would have been very helpful also.

Stunt kites and power kites experience. Make flying the inflateable a walk in the park. I think its pretty hard to build good kite stills on inflatables, they are very limited and the control is indirect.

I learned to waterski when I was 12, but hadn't done it since. Otherwise, none of the above. Kite skills seem like such a big part of kiteboarding.

However, my wife can fly any type of kite better than I can, but she still can't get onto the board after multiple lessons and 15 plus sessions in the water. She took a wakeboarding lesson to get some "board skills" and got up on her first try.

She says it's having to do everything right all at the same time. None of the sports in the poll fit that except windsurfing.
