Crazy sherman idea: floating slider? or kicker?

Post by consumer » Mon Mar 14, 2005 3:02 pm

Hey yall, i think it can be done if we all band together, im willing to do the brunt of the work in making a floating slider(a kicker is kinda way hard), for sherman, but there are many things missing. If anyone is interested post up and if we get all of the requirements filled i think we can actually make this a reality.

We can build the kicker and just leave it at the kite launch at sherman, we're probably going to need a boat to tow it out and anchor it, when its being used. Thats one the things we're going to need, a boat.
We'll also need a truck to transport the kicker to sherman.

As far as matierals and labor go, im willing to do just about anything as long as i know im not crazy and doing this for no reason at all.

crazy idea or what?

I suggest you run your idea by the Riovista windsurfing and kite boarding association first, as when the season picks up there will be a series of buoys strung out marking the no jump/trick boundary zone to the kitebaech and the windsurfer's "Tassies beach"

Guest,
Those bouys were put out by Nat Lincoln of who runs a school at sherman when the season is on there. I helped him pull them up at the end of the season. I think as soon as he gets back he will put them back out. I believe that they are in the possesion of the camp host (Indian Bob?), if you had a boat you could put them out if you wanted.
I like the bouys too they keep people away from the beach.

Thanks,
Blair

The Correct term for people who only kite within 50 feet of the beach, is "Kite Terrorist, or Beach terrorist"

Bad idea @ the delta for the following reasons:
1. Massive tide shifts each day
2. Big winds and tides wash everything away
3. Area gets crowded when the wind is on. Having sliders/kickers would only create more congestion and create more reason to ban kites.
4. The need for a boat to take it/out is a pain.
5. Finally, there are 100's of natural features: tules, sand spits, logs, tules, slicks, tidal standing waves.....etc.

Good winds + waves, Zeev.

Yup, bad idea. Move to Hatteras if you want to slide and kick.
