Has anyone tried this product to kite foil with? It has a billet aluminum foil. Seems a little less expensive alternative.

Tony took an airchair foil and modified and it works just fine but not the best. It's also pretty heavy since it's made of aluminium. SkiSki seems pretty expensive for what you get. I think I prefer to spend little more and get the carbon foil.

You're in the ball park of a second hand Lyft foil and board and not that far of a second hand higher performance foil and board. I'd find one of them over that.

Re: SkySki Standup for kite foil
I'd started a thread inquiring about this company not too long ago...
https://www.bayareakiteboarding.com/for ... =1&t=12880
The Ripper weighs in at just over 10lbs. How much do kite foils weigh on average? I picked up a carbon one and it felt about 10lbs. My Firewire Vanguard 5'0 weighs in at just under 9lbs with a quad fin, wax, and grip and it feels light to me. Does my tiny sized surfboard really weigh more than a kite foil board?
LF has a foil in the works. Since LF is a domestic brand, they should be cheaper. The question is what the quality and performance will be like.

I don't know what my carbon Sword weighs but it is very light compare to Tony's airchair foil that he modified to use and mine is probably foot longer.

Actually it's hard to tell by SkySki's description, but it may be only the board that's just over 10lbs. It looks like the foil specifically for this board is 12lbs, so in total the entire set-up is over 22lbs. No bueno!

Re: SkySki Standup for kite foil
I have the 2002 Rush Randle foilboard. I haven't ridden a carbon foil, but from watching other riders, my foil is slower and harder to ride. I met Clark who has the identical foil as me (Sky Ski) and mounted it on a Liquid Force board. He rides it strapless and makes it look easy. I still need a front foot strap to get up and am still learning to jibe. Mine seems to top out at 15 knots, where it pops out. I am currently experiementing with shimming the rear wing.
I like the Aluminum as it is strong and easy to repair (file nicks on wing). The foil is heavy when walking to the beach and I wouldn't want to jump it. For a light wind board, these foils goes upwind like nothing else, making me ride a kite size smaller than my surfboard, which is a kite size smaller than my twintip. The resale on Sky Skis seems to be pretty good. The Skyski in the picture is a newer front and rear foil that has no winglets. It took me about 6 sessions to feel comfortable on my foil and was able to go upwind. If you are intersted in hydrofoils, I recommend trying one out as they are a blast, mine was a game changer for me.

Can someone please explain how to go about "trying" one out? No shops that I'm aware of have demo foils available and nobody I know of is willing to loan out their $2K board to a first-time foiler just to "try" before they buy.sflinux wrote:If you are intersted in hydrofoils, I recommend trying one out as they are a blast, mine was a game changer for me.
