SoCal to NoCal Coast Run

Post by androka » Fri Jul 11, 2014 10:34 am

Heading down to Maliboo next week and then driving up the coast. Any suggestions on where to kite? I've been to Dillon a few times but over past 5 years have been mostly Bay Bound. Use strapped surfboard and can self launch/land.
I found this site for socal: http://new.scka.org/kitespots
and looking through ikitesurf for places between la and sf.

I kited Cayucos a couple times. A little mellower than Pismo Beach. Cool town too.

If you're coming up Hwy 1 I hear San Simion can be good.

You definitely need to check out this spot in "Oregon" and "Europe" during your road trip...

As sloughslut said, the burgers are great!

Here's another spot in "Oregon" that you might want to check out. There's also a really cool castle nearby that's fun to visit. Lo)%

C street in Ventura
Leo Carrillo in Malibu
Belmont in Long Beach think of a much dirtier 3rd ave, but with a much nicer beach.

Santa Barbara. Bring your big kite.

SoCal wind isn't as strong or consistent as we have here, but I had some success on a trip once, when we didn't have wind up here. I hit 3 beaches:

Ledbetter: successful day, but watch out for scary seaweed patches. People have drowned.

C street: skunked

Leo Carillo: mowed the lawn and swam a lot.

If you can choose your route, and the forecast is promising, I recommend Lake Isabella near Bakersfield. It's out of the way, though.
