Santa Cruz area demo/rental

Post by splitwind » Wed Jul 02, 2014 7:36 am

I am heading to the SC area next weekend 7/12-13 and looking to rent or demo gear. I would even be willing to take some intermediate lessons if available. Anyone have any suggestions?

There are no kite retailers in or near SC, but you might try contacting the following and see if they can help you out...
Caution Kites -

Alex @ SC Kitesurfing -

Davenport SurfSail -
http://www.davenportsurfsail.com/

You might be better off getting it before you go. Kite 415 and Boardsports both have demo & rental programs available...

Brendan Richards teaches there, not sure if he still does. Amazing how he is able to shadow his student when they are both on a kite and waves all around.

It's a little bit informal there, hang out at the beach and talk to the Caution crew. They are almost always there, especially on windy days.

You say intermediate lessons and need to rent equipment...that implies that you are a beginner and lack gear. Not sure if santa cruz is the place to demo gear as a beginner.
Kudos to you though for seeking out instruction.
Take a drive and head to Third Ave or Alameda?

Except that they say "intermediate lessons". Sounds more likely that they are a visiting kiter.

Thanks for all of the input. I am a Visiting kiter but couldn't bring my gear due to work travel. Managed to pack my wetsuit so might just surf with friends in the area. Would much rather kite but might not work this time. I'm gonna try to get to kite 415 and see what they can do

Had a great day in SC on Saturday with Alex. Great wind, sun, and waves with plenty of room for everyone to play safely. Thanks for helping a fellow kiter enjoy the west coast wind!
