Alameda Changes?

Post by kandrey89 » Sat May 24, 2014 4:13 pm

Hi,
I haven't been at Alameda in a year, did something change?
Looking at http://boardsportsschool.com/wp-content ... webcam.jpg yesterday, must have been low tide, I saw sandbars right if front of the launch area, and now the launch area looks much bigger.

Is there still a 6 foot cliff between the launch area and the water or has there been some project that dumped tons of sand around the launch area to get rid of the cliff.

Thanks

Yes, beach as been entirely re-done.
You know launch with your kite towards the water. Tons of room.
Kites: 2020 F-One Bandit: 10m.
Board: 2018 F-One Slice 5'1 Surf/Foil convertible
Harness: Manera Union.
Wetsuit: Manera 5/4 X10D

They added tons of sand over the winter. The launch area is now much bigger and the "cliff" is further out. The beach had been eroding away for years. From the East Bay Regional Parks District website:

In 2013, a $5.7 million project that pumped 82,600 cubic yards of sand restored the beach and dune system to its 1987 footprint.

YAY, that's an awesome surprise because that cliff made that place feel like it wasn't for kite launching, picking up your lines and bar, jumping off the cliff, getting your lines caught up on the sticking out rocks and sand edge, yack.
Can't wait to get out and try the new launch spot.

Thanks all.
