Interesting pump experiment results

A friend of mine and I both have electric kite pumps. The other day we did an experiment to test the new inflation valves being used by Core, Cabrinha, and North (the ones you connect the regular bayonet pump hose to directly). We both set our pumps to the same pressure of just over 7 psi. He had a 17M Riot XR3LW with a new inflation valve. I had a 14M North Fuse with a standard bleeder inflation valve. We started pumping at the same time.

I expected us to finish about the same time but was dumbfounded when his kite was pumped about a minute before mine.

One could say we should have used the same pump on both kites, or that we should have done the experiment several times and swapped the pumps, but a minute difference on a kite 2M larger is not going to change the timing enough to warrant further testing; these new inflation valves are AWESOME!

Not to Hi Jack ;) your thread, but I've been wondering if there's an electric pump around that might work for both kites and an inflatable SUP. I think the SUP requires 10-15 P.S.I. so I'm sure either nothing would come close or it could be topped by hand, but the SUP's volume may even just suck the battery dry by the time it's full (or at least strain the battery's longevity). My friend uses an electric pump and recommends I check out an air tank. I want an inflatable SUP for travel convenience, but after watching a guy pump one up with a foot pump there's got to be a better way.

I haven't seen the new valves you're talking about but they make sense to me. The nozzle on a kite pump simply reduces the flow volume some (reduced hole area @ constant rate), and a secure tether mechanism would better keep the nozzle from popping out during hard pumps. It reduces parts count (cost/loss/breakage), and may also eliminate the need to tether the kite from blowing away (says the guy with tetherless air mattress pumps in his trunk... ).

It isn't so much a hijacking of the topic as it makes me feel a bit uncomfortable because it wasn't intended to end in a sales pitch.

Got both the digital and analog style electric kite pumps in our shop....

Will try on one of our inflatable SUP's tomorrow and let you know how it goes...
