As mentioned this is a common one - I usually post up same info on each of these threads:

2-Line Kite + 1-Line Bar Sometimes = Pinwheel Nantucket Sleighride in High Wind
1-Line Kite + 2-Line Bar Sometimes = Not Fully Depowered but Punched Out Kite

Be safe out there...

Ok, I just have to say it. I think it is really STUPID to mix and match bars as a beginner who knows essentially nothing about how safety systems work or even how to fly a kite for that matter. What? To save a $100, I mean come on people.

In this case, the shop has a responsibility to their customer.

There are so many sources for kites and so many shops now that getting a kite with a sub-par safety system is just dumb and can be avoided.

So, I went to the shop today and got the bar changed to a Slingshot bar matching my Slingshot kite. Issue resolved.

It is true that the "one / two line flag out" question has been posted here before. This forum in fact is the source that made me aware of that problem in the first place. Still, I was not sure if that really was the problem in my case. Even less so after the confusing communication on the phone with the shop.

Thank you all for helping me out, especially Steve and Yoda, you where very precise and clear about the situation.

Tom (now happy and able to depower his kite)

this is something that should have been clearly discussed by your instructor, as well as anyone in a shop selling you gear.

a single centerline leash system (with adequate travel) will bring down all kites

a double centerline system is only recommended on the kites it is designed for, (and is questionably effective in many cases, imo)
