Another non-kiter safety awareness thread

Post by gtilde » Mon Sep 16, 2013 9:19 pm

I would like to add another observation on this topic that deserves attention.

Last saturday I was at ocean beach walking between lincoln and vfw's and noticed quite a few people riding on twintips. I saw at least 2 kiters riding on the way inside bringing or maintainig their kite very low, immediately above large numbers of beachgoers. One into particular got alot of attention. While I am relatively new to kiting at OB my decades of surfing experience here tells me that this will get noticed, even without and incident/injury, by the beach patrol guys and safety-minded beach goers, especially with children (this includes me).

Perhaps some regular kite surfers can provide feedback accordingly.

My feedback would be to say don't send your kite down low above beachgoers (kiters or not, does not really matter much)... I don't know what else to add, the sport is still seeing growth and many of the problems we've seen historically have, more or less, fortunately (I suppose) been somewhat limited to those within the kiting community at launches but this has been changing as most of us know.

This is my observation, I don't have a solution...

This one has got me thinking...

Was this morning or afternoon?

Why would anyone ride a twin tip at Ocean Beach given that it is such an ideal waveriding spot?

What is it like to be the person who's best option to spend a Saturday is going for a walk on the beach in 50 degree weather and 30 mph wind?

What is the sound of one hand clapping?

If Vincent lands a backmobe at Coyote Point and no one is around hear it - does it make a sound?
