I think Art of Flight is quite possibly the best snowboard movie ever made and there's got to be a kite movie that holds the equivalent title, or is our sport still only at YouTube clip level?

Re: Kiter equivalent to "Art of Flight"?
I think kiteboarding is just so much smaller than snowboarding. I mean how many more snowboarders are there compared to us? We are a small group and making a full on movie like The Art of Flight would just not make sense economically I think. I would love to see a movie at that level, I just can't see anybody to pay for it... so, yeah I guess we are stuck in youtube-land ;-)

"With a Kite" looks like it has potential for some high production value. Totally agree that it's a much smaller sport and can't yet draw the big money in like snowboarding but it may also have to do with the nature of the sport itself. You can get out in stronger and stronger winds but it just doesn't seem like it translates the same way as riding steeper and steeper terrain. I love that art of flight takes a large portion of the "trick porn" out of the typical snowboard movie equation and replaces it with absolute epic lines in the most remote locations ever ridden. Doesn't hurt to have a massive budget and some of the most talented editors in the action sports scene.
To me, watching Loscocco's epic Golden Gate cruises are far more satisfying than Aaron Hadlow nailing 27 handle-passes in a row… though "Calibrate" had some absolute breathtaking shots.

haha, yeah I was just going to mention "Calibrate". That one at least tried something new and used some more good use of effects. I thought it was pretty cool. Len10 also tried to come out with some stuff, he tried with more brute force like mega loops. Not bad but still pretty cheap productions. I agree with the "trick porn" thing. But in order to do more epic shots you need more budget... "trick porn" is cheap :-)
We should maybe mention the F-One movie in Africa... that one was pretty awesome. I forgot its name...

Nothing "best ever", but here's a recent favorite.

I love the low wave shots and it has some cool sound effects.
[But what is it about kiteboarding videos and wobble bass!?]

Not kiting off topic:
If you want epic lines in remote locations, check out the Jeremy Jones films "Deeper" and "Further".
Not too many tricks, but some rad lines and super gnarly mountaineering. T.Rice even makes an appearance in "Deeper".

Re: Kiter equivalent to "Art of Flight"?
Living in Alaska and working in remote Alaska I watch a lot of vimeo and youtube clips and movies that can take hours to download about kiteboarding and kitesurfing.
Kiteboarding to me now is everyday, it's cool, there is come amazing stuff going on and the history / progression is awesome. The Kitesurfing is what is really drawing me further in to the sport.
Most of the guys I kite with in AK are surfers.. working hard everyday so they can live the dream in killer surf abroad / kitesurfing spots. It's from them that I heard about Mitu Monterio. Watching him is more than just entertainment, it's inspiring!
I know these aren't movies and I'm sure you all in the "Lower 48" have seen these, but here are a few of my favs....

Re: Kiter equivalent to "Art of Flight"?
Maybe I'm dating myself but some of the films/DVDs I enjoyed were those that captured a feeling during a period of time that was significant for me in a kiteboarding sense and expressing an era of discovery. Ten4 is good, most DVDs from early/mid Maui days are awesome. Into The Air has a good vibe to it. Calibrate and the two well produced and effected Hadlow vids from several years back are awesome. Older vids with Vari and Tobias are fun (Dream.) Slingshot had a couple good Lenten vids.
There's a ton of stuff out there and it all means different things to different people. How you relate to it and like may weigh on when you got into the sport, where you've been with it and why you're doing now.
