At about 5pm today I saw a fin that didn't look particularily like a doplhin fin. I saw quite a bit of dolphins in Santa Barbara, and got I almost hit by one in Belmont while kite surfing. The fin was a bit more brown and didn't have as much of a sweep as a dolphin fin. I made sure not to fuck up my tack. I am attributing the color and shape discrepancies to my fogged up sunglasses. There are dolphins at Waddell, right? :)

There have been a few spottings of great white dolphins due to inter-species breeding.

One of my most startling yet cool moments at Waddell so far was experiencing a huge whale cruising northbound just outside of the break. It was early in the day and there were only around 2-3 kites out but I won't forget how massive and inspiring it was to ride by it ^^

While surfing w/my son @ WC last week - a grey day with little wind, but very nice surf, my little dude who was in waist deep water was nudged by a seal....the seal came back around and took a little friendly nibble, like a puppy would, which freaked my son out....

It was a great teaching opportunity about the "eat or be eaten" reality of the ocean.

and no, to Arrested Development fans, the seal was not wearing a yellow bowtie ;-)
