Number of kiters in the Bay Area

Postby Ron » Mon May 20, 2013 5:00 pm

Maybe it's just me but I find that there are way more kiters in Alameda, 3rd Av and even Waddell than 2 years ago. Is the sport growing this fast or is this just me getting old or something? How many kiters in the bay area?

500?? + -

Probably 3000.
With 1000 semi-regulars and 200 regulars.

how many members are on this site? seems like you could get a decent order of magnitude estimate from that.

I'd guess about 1000.

Considering KGB swag puts out 1000 lessons a year with Living Social and Groupons probably 5000. The word is on the street these days that anybody and your great grandma can learn to kiteboard with no athletic ability

according to kitenaked, you only need to know how to swim.

There are a few skills Gatewood recommends a beginning kiteboarder possess before signing up for lessons. “If you can swim, that’s a good thing,” said Gatewood. “It’s a good skill to have. A person with a basic understanding of sailing will have an easier time than someone who has never sailed.”
