Self-launched yesterday and my kite got hung up and went all haywire. Immediately pulled on the chicken loop quick release and nothing happened. I immediately moved the DK and unhooked, and so all was good.

I had not had to use the quick release on my chicken loop in a long time, and what with the build up of sand and salt the unit had frozen shut.

When I got home I rinsed it out really well and sprayed it down with WD40.

No matter how confident I become in my skills, no matter how well prepared I think I am, something always pops up.

Which brand and year was the quick release?

I open my release almost every time I hook in before a session - just to be sure it works. Even when the Chomp-O-Meter™ is at 11, if figure it could save my life.

I was just reading something a while back that recommended to check the safety system often and know how to use it :)

I have itchy fingers, I'd probably check the chicken loop several times before getting in the water just because of the clickyty-clackity sound :mrgreen:

Yojimbo, glad you're ok. Just one comment about WD-40. I read somewhere that there are dry lubricants out there to be used for these applications. WD-40 may stay on the part and stick to sand. Not sure what a recommendation for a good dry lubricant is, someone may have used it here.

Yeah, I was about to say it but had to run off. It's not a good idea to use WD40 on non-metal parts.

+1 for F-one bar, it may seem old school but I have no worries of sand or ice messing with my release.

WD-40 will break down polycarbonate plastics, is that what they use on a kite bar?

I've been using Bosch T-9 spray lubricant for several years with no ill effects.

What brand chicken loop was it? I retired a liquid force 2008 chicken loop because it jammed as you described (very bad design).
