And the answer is: Estero Americano, which is where American Creek enters the ocean between Dillon Beach and Bodega Bay.
Not living near the Bay Area or Delta makes you get creative sometimes. We rented a place at Dillon Beach after we saw a great forecast for the week, and as soon as we got there a dense fog set in for 3 days and shut off the wind. While riding bikes up to Valley Ford, we discovered the sun shining and the wind blowing just a mile or 2 inland. If only we had a lake!
I recalled that the estero opened up into big bays closer towards the ocean, so we loaded our gear up and canoed 4 miles down the estero. The fog was burning off before our eyes as it rolled over the first ridge in from the ocean, and we were kiting! I did a downwinder back to the car, but didn't quite make it all the way because a turn went behind a tree-covered hill and my kite dropped.
Kiters considering this site should be aware that navigable stream laws apply: you cannot walk on the bank above the high-water/high-tide line or you're trespassing.
Any other firsts? If not, I'll provide more.

Here's a couple of spots off the beaten path - Twin Buttes Resv and Brady Resv in central texas (on the way to SPI)

At Brady, we had lots of spectators in pickups watching and wondering what the hell we were doing

Yeee-Haaa!
Ride'em, cowboy!
That's what I imagine the locals were thinking watching you guys.
I'm hoping to get away to San Padre sometime myself. It's nice to know some options for breaks along the route.

I remember a storm session a few years ago at the Hornet. An Alameda cop pulled up just as we were hitting the water and I thought, "uh oh, we're in trouble when we're done...". He sat in his car (it was pissing down rain the whole time), watching us boost and carve, spraying water onto the sand. We put on a pretty decent show, just for the cop.

As soon as we landed our kites (an hour and a half later), I figured we'd be in for a discussion but instead, he started his patrol car and drove away. I wonder what he told the dispatcher he was doing the whole time??!

Your tax dollars at work!
