Hey all... I'm probably going to start heading to TP as I was a bit late last year.... when is it good? I'm trying to avoid going all the way to 3rd, and having the dreaded skunky trips to Alameda.

I wonder if it was working today? tomorrow? I'm not totally clear on which sensors to look at on ikitesurf.

thanks

Ben

No, he meant this section (scroll down for the Toll Plaza): https://www.bayareakiteboarding.com/for ... m.php?f=23
However, the Toll Plaza info right now is only about how to get there. Maybe some of you guys should add some more detail.

This view pretty much looks right across the zone from Berkeley Marina to the bay bridge:

Look at the TI sensor if it's a W day.

But it takes the wind a few extra hours to get to TP from TI. And if it gets there, it's a few knots lighter.

Any wind coming out of the south won't make it to TP; the bridge is in the way.

I've found the Berkeley sensor to be a better measure than TI with winds coming from WNW or above.

Oh, and If the wind is too far north, you're on your own. The Berkeley sensor gets covered up by the peninsula.

On N days, it's fun to beat upwind to near TI. That wind direction makes it more of a reach than straight upwind, and it gives you a chance to play around in a place that's typically pretty hard to access.

I have been kiting there regularly for 3 years now these are my observations.
Ben for real time readings you need to first get an ikitesurf/windalert discounted membership:http://www.ikitesurf.com/services.iws?referrerID=107160

Then use the real time info from other sensors, port of oakland, oakland berth(need to show 11-13+) , TI and Berkely(need to show 18-20+). There is no TP sensor. Wind fills in fine inside most days but on some low tides you will need to walk out a small way to the wind line.
This info as well as tide info and directions are in the previously mentioned KGB link #oakland and #tpbeach.

Most everyday is SW during the summer, the best direction and TP will usually match the port sensors for direction regardless what direction Berkely is showing. West works but is not ideal as sometimes there are holes with the west. Light winds from true South will not work. North and NW is only mostly in the winter and early in the season works fine but not ideal, hazards etc.

It has been windy at TP for some point everyday now since April13th!
We are there almost everyday and can help anyone launch and land.
It will be windy there until early August then will turn outside more.

Cya at the beach.
