Kite Naked is helping Benicia Yacht Club in planning the 1st Annual BYC Carquinez Kite Cup on April 20, 2013 in conjunction with the Opening Day on the Straits celebration.

The Benicia Yacht Club will be open to visitors / non members as well to highlight the club offering and celebrate the annual event. There will also be an arts show and a few select booths for water sports vendors including stand up paddle boarding demos offered by Benicia Kite and Paddle Sports. With good wind there may also be a big air event added in.

The kite racing event will be planned for the 20th as the primary day. If there is no wind, we may have an alternate event day of Sunday April 21st or change the event from a kite to an SUP fun race.

A purse ($$$$) will be planned with donations from industry and community. Part of donations will go toward a charity.

Will be a 2 buoy downwind one upwind buoy. 2 lap. Ebb.

How "beginner friendly" will the race be?

I picked up a race board near the end of last season and only have about 6-8 sessions on it, none of which have been in any kind of heavy traffic. And I don't have race kites (rockin' some '11 Cautions).

I know I won't be at the top, but I want to get started with a few races this season.

Can I ride my surfboard just for fun? I know I dont stand a chance against raceboards but since its in my back yard I want to ride.
