You learnt edge control fast in those days. There was also quite a few people who resisted depower for a while because they thought they didn't need it... I remember being hooked into a 5m Wipika classic cruising along in some flat water at GY in New Zealand. Everything seemed to be fine and then I was rag dolled down the lake for a while with no idea what had happened. There was also about a 2 second lag between pulling on the bar and the kite starting its part of the deal. They were still surprisingly fun times! Manu was always impressive as he went out in waves while we sought out the flatest water we could find to hold an edge in.
