I just realized I lost my factory knife from my Mystic Harness. Any suggestions for a good replacement? I'm sure some other compact knife options will hold up better under salty conditions that the Mystic one.

Also, do you guys use a leash of some sort? The Mystic velcro obviously failed me

i lost my mystic knife last year, tried three or four other brands all of which quickly corroded so i recently ordered another mystic knife. it was the only one that never rusted on me.

Get two. Put one in the pocket on your harness and another in a pouch on the OTHER side of your harness.

Now close your eyes, jump around so you're out of breath and panic.

Keep your eyes closed and reach for each knife till you know exactly where it is, without thinking twice. Cross your hands and reach for the opposite knife (in case one hand is tangled or one knife gets lost again).

Practice this with your kite release too. With your eyes closed till its totally natural. If you ride in the surf, do this test often. It'll save your hiney at some point in your kiting career...

Check out the range of knives from Benchmade, circle knives look best, simple, but there's lots of cool others

I attach a thin nylon rope to my knife and the inside of the knife pouch. I used the knife once during my first season, not a critical event but had to cut a line, grabbed the knife and...dropped it....good to have the line on it, reeled it in and cut the line. I make sure the line is no longer than I can reach and just push it inside the pouch.

whew...reading and answering forum threads is not as much fun as kitesurfing...but at least its something to do with kitesurfing, right?

Good call on the nylon rope. I do the same thing with mine. Someone recently recommended, that I use fishing line instead. The advantage being, in the event the knife needed to be untethered, a quick yank is easier/quicker than having to cut it free. It makes sense to me. Think I'm gonna rig up some good ol' fish line.

How does the benchmade stuff hold up to saltwater?
