They are endangered `~` , not us-
The 44 plus years I've been swimming/surfing/windsurfing/sailing/powerboating, PROFESSIONALLY FISHING,..... in the oceans (around the world) I've seen MANY types of shark in there natural state but NEVER-never got even a good FLICKER of a view of a GreatWhite in the ocean-

So-, if you manage to get yourself eaten, that would be a VERY SPECIAL MOMENT indeed.

No lifeguards on duty on NorCal beaches, as far as I can tell. Normally they would have shut that beach down, no kiting, no swimming, no surfing. It is a total free for all at Dillon, the most they do there is groom the beach every once in a blue moon, and post a "no pit bull" sign at the entrance. I have found this to be rather freeing, yet it seems like disaster is a heartbeat away.

I almost went out again that day, but it took another kiter telling me that there was a shark sighting for me to back off. One guy didn't get out, but he was hugging the shoreline so tightly he might as well have been on the beach.

While on the topic. I thought iphone users would get a kick out of the Shark Net app.

Stanford is tracking great whites in the SF Bay area and the Shark Net app allows you to see where the sharks they tagged are located in the bay, where they swim etc.

Pretty cool stuff and it's free.

here is a link to the news article where i found out about it. http://newsfeed.time.com/2012/08/16/sha ... at-whites/

You mean "California Coast".....

Bay Area is a little misleading.

What a great app, thanks for posting that. Now I know that Mr. Burns and Wave Glider "Carey" are patroling my favorite kite spot.

Tons of sharks at Wadell too. Probably a good idea to stay out of the water until seal pup season is over!!
