Can I consider myself intermediate now?

Postby IncreaseTheBP » Wed Aug 15, 2012 10:33 pm

So I am new to the forum but have lurked around a bit.

I started riding at the beginning of July and as with most has been challenging. Lots of frustrating and scary moments as well as lots of really cool and helpful people. More than a couple "kitemares" and plenty of "walk of shames". I wanted to post today because I am feeling pretty happy with myself.

After 10 or so afternoons at Toll Plaza and 3 up winders (at sherman) I nervously entered at the main Sherman launch in 25+ mph winds for the first time. Today was one of the best days of my life. Riding nearly straight upwind like a BOSS all day long. I can make turns now everytime without stoppng to sit on my ass. Even caught a few semi intentional airs. Carved up the butter behind the islands...It was amazing. Today is what I dreamed kiteboarding would be like and am now officially hooked.

So much still to learn. The community has been great. Haven't run into one single person that hasn't been anything but helpful and encouraging. My only regret is that I didn't take this sport up sooner.

Wether or not I should still be considered a noob or novice or beginner or whatever. Today for a couple hours I felt like an expert :). Just thought I would share.

Congrats on catching the stoke!

Forget the labels... always more to learn and soon plenty to teach. You're just a kiter. =-

Nice! Breakthrough sessions are one of the greatest feelings out there. I've had a few that put a giant grin on my face for hours or even days: first time staying up, first time riding a directional, first day getting upwind, first time flying my new kites.

The best part is that there are still a myriad of other kite skills to unlock and smile about. Keep the stoke going!

Thanks to everyone who read and replied. My first lesson was with KGB so thanks to Royce (and Dan). Also thanks to Nat at edge for the 3 down-winders at Sherman. Been a week now since I was in the water and I'm going crazy. Headed back out tomorrow wind permitting. Hopefully see some of you out there!

Right on Mike!

The intermediate stage is LONG...

7 years, 15 kites, 6 boards, 6 states, two countries, unhooked moves, kiteloops, 30' boosts, over 250 sessions and I consider myself an advanced intermediate. Sky is the ceiling!

Keep up the stoke!
