Chris, I actually stumbled on a place in Kihei. Luana Kai. She says can kite in front of property. I'll check you recommendation as well.

You going to Sherman tomorrow or so?

Hi guys,

I have a general question regarding kiteboarding in Maui. My wife wants to kite while we are there. She kites 2-3 times a year and can sometimes stay upwind. She really likes the layout of La Ventana beach wise. Is there a spot in Maui like that? Kite Beach? Or down by Kihei? I was reading some of the descriptions around Kihei and it seems like its a more intermediate advanced spot. Alhtough they do lessons in south Kihei.

What do you guys think? Need to narrow down so we can book rooms....

Hi Stewart,

Kanaha Beach Park is where we all kite. It is upwind of "Kite Beach / Pro Beach". It is the best spot for someone with you wifes skills. I have an excellent connection if she wants someone to help out on her 1st or 2nd session until she is comfortable. Takes the pressure off of you both and puts here in the hands of someone well qualified with the spot.

Kihei can be nice, but much of the time is stronger, gusty, sometimes light on the inside....etc. My best session from my July trip was actually in Kihei the last day of the trip.

I dont know of anyone who does lessons down there in the summer time...or the winter

Is it a kite trip or a general vacation?

Big Resorts / More Money: Lahaina / Kanapali or Wailea
Older / Cheaper: Kihei (my vote)

There are also some places in Wailuku (little more "ghetto").

Brand new hotel just outside of the airport in Kahului, not sure of the rates. (I think it is a marriott), but I personally wouldnt want to be staying there unless on a 1 or 2 day business trip.

There are also places toward and in Paia that are available for short term....

Looks like I'll be on Hawaiian, but may see you there around the same time. Awesome that so many people are going, we saw Clint when you guys were at Sherman the other day and he said you were going so that's pretty cool, we will have to do as Chris says and maybe this time we can bbq for Maui Mike!
