Mike, for me the link shows the old view of 3rd upper for a couple seconds then updates with a new view where I can see lots of 2009 kites among others--that's why I posted. Dunno why it switches, must be a glitch in the googleplex.

Every year we talk about the erosion at 3rd but then nothing happens. We seriously need to do something about it or we risk loosing the upper launch. Has anyone talked to the SFBA about this topic? Would someone from SFBA respond to this thread and let the forum readers know how we/they can help?

Thanks.

The glitch must be because all the Googlers are out kiting instead of fixing the glitches in the Googleplex

When you zoom past a certain level, it switches from USGS satellite imagery to something else... my guess is aerial photos. It's the same thing Bing/Live does with their "bird's eye view."

Notice the perspective change from directly above to at an angle. Notice the USGS copyright info on the bottom disappear.

So, most likely, the aerial imagery (which is more detailed) is newer than the satellite images?

4 different angled "bird's eye views" from Bing. Notice they were all taken from different times. The parking lot also does not have a porta potty on Bing bird's eye, so not sure how old they are. The Bing overhead shot of upper launch also looks like it's underwater almost, and there are some sort of tire ruts all over the green sections (also visible in the bird's eye views). What are those ruts from?
